Dahl ceiling luminaire is the creation of Birger Dahl, a pioneer of Scandinavian luminaires, with a long and varied past. The Dahl luminaire was originally created in 1956 and installed two years later in a newly renovated Norwegian parliament building. 

In 2016, Northern started producing design pearls again.

Over the decades, the curved and soft contours of the luminaire, with its classic accents in the classic mid-century style, have merged into different style interiors and have managed to act as a glowing focal point in the room. The luminaire is available in three different shades with metal details, which either act as a bold contrast or vice versa, creating a uniformly soft shape of the luminaire.
